THE LAKES

Four prolific day ticket fishing lakes near Stafford & Stoke-on-Trent
With plenty of swims and the choice of four varied pools to try, there’s something for every angler at Izaak Walton Fishery. For those who love classic float or pole fishing, there are fantastic catches of silverfish and F1s to be had. Or you could try for our carp; beautifully conditioned fish that are sure to put a good bend in your rod.
Canal
Our snake style lake is a delightful place for a pleasure fishing session, while it also hosts regular matches. Perfect for pole fishing, it has a width of around 12 metres and depths similar to a typical canal. Stocks include pristine roach and skimmers, but the main target tends to be the F1 carp. Beautifully conditioned and ranging from bright gold to platinum and ghost koi colouration, these are the pride of the fishery. We’d recommend little and often loose feeding and relatively fine rigs to catch a netful. Just ask George to find out where the hot pegs currently are!
Top Lake
With various features, tempting corners and a central island, this lake offers consistently good fishing year round. For a bag of traditional species, classic float or feeder fishing tactics will yield cracking roach and bream. A good head of carp also exist here, well into double figures. Meanwhile, the trees and feature swims are worth a go for some terrific perch, bigger carp and other surprises- including some nice chub.
Middle Lake
With similar mix of species to our main pool, this smaller more intimate lake is ideal for fishing close in. Those who enjoy stalking carp or float fishing just off the rod tip will love this one. Expect all the usual species, with quality silvers and carp alike.
Bottom Lake
This original lake is the oldest on the fishery and offers excellent carp fishing in Staffordshire. As with our other pools, there is a good mix of species, but you’ll also find a good stock of bigger carp here, including stunning mirrors, commons and some real net-fillers. With numerous doubles and fish well into the twenties, this is the lake for the specimen angler to try stronger tackle and bigger baits such as meat and bigger pellets and boilies. Do pack a generous sized net and unhooking mat, too, because you’re likely to need them!
River Fishing: Watch this space...
Besides the lakes, we also have a short but pretty stretch of river at the bottom of the fishery. It’s a little wild at present, but holds some lovely chub, dace and other species. Our longer term goal is to open a handful of swims to visiting anglers, to give you even more choice of fishing. Watch this space for further details…
